MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The South Carolina Department of Transportation will have a drop-in meeting next month to gather public input on planned safety-improvement projects along Robert Grissom Parkway and Socastee Boulevard in Horry County.

The meeting will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Aug. 8 at the General Robert H. Recreation Center at 800 Gabreski Lane. SCDOT representatives will be available to discuss the projects, but no formal presentation is planned.

The work along Robert Grissom Parkway will take place between Stalvey Ave to Executive Ave/Cannon Road, while the work on Socastee Boulevard will be between Dick Pond Road and Manor Circle.

According to the SCDOT, the work at both locations will include:

    • high visibility crosswalks
    • ADA ramps
    • leading pedestrian intervals
    • countdown signal heads
    • new pavement markings
    • intersection improvements
    • pedestrian crossings
    • access management practices in areas with a high frequency of crashes

The work in both areas is expected to begin in the fall of 2026 and last about one year.
