Argentina’s national soccer team was booed during its national anthem Wednesday after singing a song deemed racist at the Copa America tournament.

Shortly after Argentina’s win over Colombia in the Copa America final July 14, midfielder Enzo Fernandez posted a video of him and other members of the team singing a song that seemingly mocks certain groups of French citizens for their African heritage.

When translated, the lyrics read as follows:

Listen, spread the word, they play in France, but they are all from Angola, they are going to run well, they like to sleep with trans people, their mum is Nigerian, their dad is Cameroonian, but on the passport it says: French.

In response to the video, the French Football Federation filed a complaint to FIFA over the “racist and discriminatory remarks.”

On Wednesday, Argentina’s under-23 team took on Morocco’s U23 team in a group match for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Before play began, the teams lined up for their respective national anthems. Argentina’s anthem was the first to play, and the song was met with resounding boos at Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium in Saint-Etienne, France.

On the field, the players appeared unfazed by the booing. Although some Argentinian fans were shown singing along to the anthem in the crowd, that singing was drowned out by the jeers from opposing fans.
