The hosts of ABC's The View attacked former President Donald Trump's new running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), for criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris for being ‘childless' in a resurfaced 2021 video clip.

During Vance’s bid for the Senate in July 2021, he told former Fox News host Tucker Carlson that "we are effectively run in this country via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives."

"They want to make the rest of the country miserable too. It's a basic fact. Look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC. The entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children," he added. "And how does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?"

"Sir," co-host Whoopi Goldberg said, pausing for dramatic effect. "There are people who have chosen not to have children for whatever reason. There are people who want to have children who cannot – how dare you!?"

"You never had a baby. Your wife had a baby. But you never had a baby. So, you know nothing about this. And how dare you?! And women, you heard how he thinks of you," Goldberg declared.

"This is not good for you, J.D.," she added while looking at the television camera as if speaking to Vance directly.

"It's so mean against cats," co-host Joy Behar quipped.

Co-host Sara Haines disagreed with Vance that her children had any factor in her political opinions.

"The part that really disgusts me is that he thinks by the fact you have children that’s how you look through the lens of politics," Haines said. "I have children, and I can assure you that is not my first thought when I think about politics. My kids are obviously going to be affected by that, but anyone with a heart will look at the moral clarity of the decisions we’re making."

Haines went on to defend abortion and shared her concerns about the environment and poverty.

"My kids have something to eat," she said. "I’ve had something to eat every meal of my life. Sometimes too much to eat, but my point here is it’s not my kids I’m worried about. It’s every kid, every person, and every human that doesn’t, so if you have a heart in your chest and are only looking through the lens of your own family, you are part of the problem."

Co-host Sunny Hostin said Vance's comments were a "myopic view" of the childless who may not choose to have children, can't have children, or college-aged voters who don't have children yet.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said her lifelong girlfriend's friends have strong feelings about Vance's comments.

"I’m hearing from so many girlfriends, lifelong Republicans that are offended. If you’re a woman of my age, mid-30s, the most common things my friends are dealing with are infertility, miscarriages, struggling to get pregnant, and people who so badly want to get married but haven’t met the right partner yet. How dare you denigrate them and say they are not as valuable and don’t have as much of a stake in society?", Griffin asked Vance.

"Finally how dare you come for cat ladies?", she snarked. "The cover of Time magazine was Taylor Swift, the ultimate, fabulous cat lady!"

The ladies on the panel then all celebrated that they were self-proclaimed "cat ladies."

"I'm a cat lady," Hostin, a mother of two children, said.

Goldberg, the mother of one daughter, laughed while pointing at herself, "I’m the ultimate cat lady!"
