How Jo Dee Messina Reacted To Maddie & Tae's Empowering Anthem

Maddie & Tae shared a glimpse of a “chaotic” moment backstage after releasing their empowering new anthem, “Free Like.”

The award-winning duo — made up of Maddie Font and Taylor Kerr — recently shared “just your casual/chaotic backstage sign along to our new banger,” they wrote in their caption on TikTok and Instagram . The “chaotic” moment drew attention from country music icon Jo Dee Messina , whose late 90s single “Bye Bye” received a nod in Maddie & Tae’s “Free Like”:

“I'm free like a hippie, free like a fire/ Free like a bird on a telephone wire/ Free like a Chevy on a don't look back road’/ Bye Bye My Baby’ on the radio/ Head spinnin' in the dust I leave/ Boy, you ain't ever seen free like me/ Free like me”

“Check it out! Gotta love it!!! So fun!” Messina gushed as she shared Maddie & Tae’s video on her Instagram story on Wednesday (July 24). She also wrote in a comment: “So fun! 💜🤣”

“ Free Like ” is Maddie & Tae’s latest song to release since “Sad Girl Summer” arrived in May. They also debuted the heartfelt ballad that serves as an ode to best friends, “Heart They Didn’t Break,” and Through The Madness Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 in recent years.
