Ballots coming in at a slow trickle for Washington primary

SPOKANE, Wash - Very few voters are getting ahead of the game and returning their ballots early for the upcoming Washington primary, but you have two weeks to mail in or drop off your ballot.

Washington's primary is August 6 and features high-profile races like the one for governor and two major congressional races in Eastern Washington.

Ballots arrived in mailboxes late last week.

According to this report from the Washington Secretary of State's office , just 2.48% of ballots have been returned statewide. That amounts to 121,028 ballots.

In Spokane County, that number is just over 3%.

11% of Mason County voters have returned their ballots, the highest in the state.

Washington data shows that of those who have returned their ballots so far, nearly 61% of those have come in by mail and nearly 38% have been left in registered drop boxes.

Most of the voters who have turned in their ballots so far are voters over the age of 65.

Recent data shows statewide voter turnout for primary elections is typically around 30%.

Washington has made it easy to track your ballot after you drop it off or put it in the mail.

You can visit this website to track your ballot.

Washingtonians have until July 29 to register to vote online.

You can register to vote in person on the day of election.
