7 Liverpool stars who would have played for Team GB in Olympics at Paris 2024

A host of Liverpool's first-team players had no let-up following the end of the 2023/24 campaign as they competed for their nations at Euro 2024 and the Copa America , with some still yet to return to pre-season training under Arne Slot .

However, the Dutchman will be thankful that Team GB will not have a men's football team competing at the Olympics for the first time since hosting in 2012, with a number of Reds eligible to compete at this year's tournament.

In 2012, Craig Bellamy was the only Liverpool player to be named in Team GB's squad, qualifying as one of three over-aged players, although future Reds Daniel Sturridge, Steven Caulker and Joe Allen were also named in Stuart Pearce's side.

Just 10 Premier League players are competing at this year's games in Paris but there could have been plenty more if football's governing bodies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland came to an agreement for Team GB to take part. Nonetheless, here are the Liverpool stars who could have played for Team GB at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

    Jarell Quansah

Having been called up to Gareth Southgate's preliminary England squad for Euro 2024 after making 33 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool in a remarkable breakthrough campaign, Jarell Quansah would have been nailed on to feature for Team GB at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

At 21, Quansah also naturally qualifies as an under-23 player, but it is his experience at the back and regular game time throughout 2023-24 that would have assured him a place in Team GB's squad. The youngster also has experience on the international stage, having competed in all of England's age groups from U16-U21.

    Harvey Elliott

Another guaranteed inclusion if Team GB had a squad, Harvey Elliott would have been a standout player at this year's Olympics. Having frequently featured throughout Jurgen Klopp's final campaign on Merseyside with 53 appearances in all competitions, Elliott would have been fit and firing to go.

Like Quansah, the Fulham academy graduate automatically qualifies for the squad through his young age (21), and offers versatility across the park, capable of operating in midfield and attack. Eight goals in 20 appearances for England's Under-21's can also not be ignored.

    Curtis Jones

Liverpool's third Englishman who would be highly likely to feature in a 2024 Team GB squad, Curtis Jones would certainly add plenty of quality to the midfield. Five goals in 36 appearances last season shows his attacking qualities, while 20 appearances for England's U21s adds vital experience.

Jones hasn't featured for Lee Carsley's youngsters since 2023, however, but was called up to England's 33-player preliminary squad for Euro 2024 in May. Having not made it to Germany, it's almost certain that Jones would have been likely to represent Team GB in France instead.

    Joe Gomez

One player who made England's final squad for this summer's Euros was Joe Gomez , although a lack of game time for the defender could have meant he'd be interested in being featured for the Team GB side in Paris. Despite being called up to Southgate's squad, Gomez failed to play a single minute in Germany.

As a result, the versatile defender would have been a great asset at this summer's Olympics, capable of operating anywhere across the back four and providing valuable experience in young squad. At age 27, Gomez could have been used as one of the three over-aged players.

    Nat Phillips

Perhaps a long shot, but Nat Phillips would have been eligible to play for Team GB at the 2024 Olympics. Despite not making a first-team appearance for Liverpool since January 2023, the center-back made 26 appearances across two loan spells with Celtic and Cardiff City last season.

Phillips certainly has his fair share of experience and could be a useful squad member. Like Gomez, he would qualify as one of Team GB's over-aged players, but with only three spaces to fill, there's no guarantee he would take up one of them due to other options on offer.

    Conor Bradley

Conor Bradley would almost certainly feature in Team GB should all four home nations agree to participate but, should there be a repeat of 2012 when Northern Ireland and Scotland failed to get involved, the youngster would not play at the 2024 Olympics.

Hypothetically, however, Bradley would be a great addition to the Team GB side. A breakthrough campaign last season brought one goal and six assists in 23 appearances, while the youngster also grabbed himself three goals in four appearances on the international stage for Northern Ireland.

    Ben Doak

As with Bradley, Ben Doak would also unlikely feature at the 2024 Olympics should Scotland hold the same stance from 2012 in which they refused to get involved. Regardless, the youngster would have been a good addition to the squad and would have provided something different in attack.

A knee injury that required surgery may have reduced him to just five senior appearances last season but the forward impressed whenever he did play and he may have been a useful option off the bench for Team GB. At just 18 years of age, he also comfortably qualifies for the squad requirements.
