Bill Crook, the former bassist of the metal band Spiritbox , has passed away. The sad news was posted by Kai Turmann, who had played with Crook in the mathcore act A Textbook Tragedy.

Crook was a member of Spiritbox from 2018 to 2022, experiencing the Canadian band’s rapid rise through the metal ranks. While guitarist Michael Stringer played bass on the band’s 2021 debut album, Eternal Blue , Crook did contribute backing vocals to several of the tracks.

The bassist was also part of Spiritbox’s touring lineup until he parted ways with the band in May 2022, and was subsequently replaced by former As I Lay Dying member Josh Gilbert.

Turmann announced Bill Crook’s passing in an Instagram post, which reads as follows:

“I’m so profoundly sad to say that our dear friend Bill Crook has passed away. He was a friend to so many, and a dear friend to me since we were children. Bill was, and is, loved by so many people and I’m so incredibly sorry to have to share this devastating information with you.”

Spiritbox’s record label Pale Chord Music confirmed Crook’s passing, writing via X/Twitter, “Please give the band and members time and space to process their loss. RIP Bill.”

In addition to his work with Spiritbox, Crook recorded with A Textbook Tragedy and the pop-punk band Living with Lions. He was recently working on new music with Underoath’s Aaron Gillespie.
