Will Smith, better known as The Fresh Prince, is back back.

Following his return to music last month with “ You Can Make I t,” and his scorching performance at the 2024 BET Awards, the Oscar and Grammy-winning rapper/actor has officially signed to SLANG, a new, thriving independent record label led by music executive Rene McLean.

SLANG’s roster includes songwriter-producer Isaia Huron, Grammy-winning visionary Camper , Hip-Hop producer 30 Roc and more emerging acts like Leaf, The Underachievers, and RY XP.

“I’m proud to lead SLANG’s efforts to partner with quality artists and invest in their growth, regardless of genre or where they are in their respective careers. In a quickly changing music industry, SLANG artists will be surrounded by a team of like-minded strategists who will stop at nothing to further their trajectory and help them meet their goals. Our commitment to culture comes first, and we consider our SLANG roster family,” said McLean in a statement of the new venture .

During his tenure at Influence Media Partners, McLean spearheaded acquisition deals for the likes of Future, Tyler Johnson, and Tainy. Prior to that, he was a manager for Cam’ron, LMFAO, and Kelis and also worked with Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, Pharrell, Timbaland, and more.

Since its release in late June, Smith’s inspirational anthem, “You Can Make It,” has garnered 1.13 million on-demand streams domestically, per Billboard .

Of the meaning behind the record, the Bad Boys star explained, “Nobody gets an easy ride. We all have a cross to bear, but there’s wisdom in the fire, and every moment is an opportunity. Embrace the journey.”

Smith first hit the music scene in 1987 as part of the rap duo, DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. Their success came from singles, “ Summertime ,” and “Parents Just Don’t Understand.” The latter earned them the first rap Grammy ever in 1989. Smith went on to have solo success with “Wild Wild West” and “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It,” which got him his first solo Grammy win.
