As the family of Jay Slater grapples with the painful wait to bring his body back to the UK from Tenerife, they're now also dealing with the added distress of "armchair detectives" trying to access confidential details.

Debbie Duncan, Jay's heartbroken mother, is not only coping with the loss of her 'beautiful boy' but also the intrusion of online sleuths attempting to pry into the teen's post-mortem report before his body has even been returned home, it has emerged.

The tragic discovery of 19-year-old Jay in a remote ravine came after a month of frantic searching, with initial post-mortem findings indicating an immediate death due to a catastrophic fall. The full post-mortem results are still pending.

A spokesperson for the Slater family has now spoken out about the damaging impact that unfounded theories and prying attempts to obtain the detailed post-mortem report have had on them, condemning the actions of these insensitive investigators.

In a conversation with the BBC, Matthew Searle, CEO of LBT Global and spokesperson for the Slater family, expressed frustration at how 'armchair detectives' and self-proclaimed experts have been exploiting Jay's case for their own gain , with some going as far as seeking access to confidential details of the young man's post-mortem.

Matthew has expressed his intention to discuss this alarming trend with Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, saying: "If someone is missing, what parents will do is sit there and try to find every bit of information online, and there's been all this stuff that's been so hurtful for them.

"But as well as the parents, all this has a huge impact on the investigation. It's been unprecedented, and I think it has to stop. This behaviour is just not fair for the authorities or practitioners like ourselves, but most of all it's not fair for the families who are going through the worst time ever.

"I've been in this job for over 20 years and I have worked on thousands of cases and I have never seen anything like this level. It seems like it's ramped up recently and it's something I feel passionately about, something I am going to be talking to the Home Secretary about in the coming weeks."

An initial post-mortem suggests Jay's death was caused by "a fall or plunge from height due to the broken bones". A Civil Guard spokesperson confirmed that Jay's injuries included several broken bones.

They stated: "The body of the man located yesterday has been identified of that as Jay Slater through fingerprint comparison and identification. The result of the preliminary autopsy points to the cause of death being a fall or plunge from height due to the broken bones he suffered."

In a chilling update, new photos reveal the desolate ravine where Jay's body was found. The remote area, featuring a steep drop and dense undergrowth, is almost impossible to reach on foot.

Rescue teams would have had to use ropes to get to the spot, battling unpredictable weather conditions along the way. This could explain the prolonged duration of the search efforts.

In the following days, Jay's grieving family will be making arrangements to bring his body back to Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire. However, they may have to wait up to a year for answers as the Spanish police are still conducting their investigations, according to The Sun.

This could potentially delay the UK inquest for months until the findings from Spain are finalised. Given the complexity of Jay's case, the UK inquest could take even longer.
