Chet Hanks Reflects On Growing Up With Famous Dad Tom Hanks On ‘Surreal Life: Villa Of Secrets’: “A Lot To Mentally Process”

Chet Hanks is used to the buzz he gets from being Tom Hanks ‘ son — but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t “a lot” to grapple with while growing up.

Eight celebrities, including the Cast Away star’s son, have checked into the villa in the newest installment of Surreal Life: Villa of Secrets , which kicked off on Tuesday night (July 23). Of course, Chet received some hype over his famous father — once they learned who Chet was.

Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Kim Zolciak made the discovery while FaceTiming her daughter Brielle. Meanwhile, Tyler Posey recalled meeting Tom when he was four years old, deeming himself a “fan of Forrest Gump .”

Model Josie Canseco, whose father, Jose Canseco , played 17 seasons in the MLB, found the revelation of Chet’s identity to be “insane.”

“You know, Tom Hanks is Tom Hanks,” she gushed in a confessional.

Later on, in his own confessional, Chet, who is an actor and musician, explained, “My dad is Tom Hanks. Have people brought that up my entire life? Yes.”

As for whether that’s “annoying,” Chet teased, “No,” with a look that certainly conveyed otherwise.

More praise for Tom came in from Zolciak and Johnny Weir , the latter of whom called the actor an “American treasure.”

“And I had no idea he had as built a son. I had no idea,” he teased.

Nonetheless, Chet assured the other stars that his father is “like the most humble dude,” saying, “And he’s so low-key. Like, he drives a Prius, you know what I mean? He doesn’t like anything flashy.”

In another confessional, Chet reflected, “Some people are really enamored with my family’s fame. Some people are really resentful about it. So, you know, from a young age, being very aware of that was a lot to mentally process.”

However, Chet received some support from Josie, who could relate to his experiences growing up with a famous father.

“I feel like when you are born with a silver spoon in your mouth, that’s kind of all you’re hit with, is like that negative angle of being like, ‘What the fuck are you complaining about?” she noted.

Chet agreed, replying, “Everyone loves an underdog, and everyone hates the motherfucker with a silver spoon.”

“We’re so similar it’s insane,” Josie told Chet.

Among the other celebs in the villa this season are singer and actress Macy Gray , rapper O.T. Genasis and singer Ally Brooke.
