There is growing excitement as breaking makes its debut at the 2024 Summer Olympics. But will it make a debut at sportsbooks as well?

Oddsmakers have already been preparing for a major uptick in summer sports wagering since the Paris Games are the first Olympics unimpeded by COVID to take place after the U.S.'s legal sports betting boom . Fans and bettors alike can go to sites like FanDuel to wager on everything from which country will win the most gold medals to which country will top the podium in both men's and women's basketball.

However, new events like breaking -- short for break dancing -- don't appear to be on the same radar. Can you wager on the breaking competition at the 2024 Summer Olympics?

With just a couple of days left until the Opening Ceremony in Paris, sites like FanDuel and DraftKings don't appear to have odds posted for breaking.

This is likely because the event is making its Olympic debut and there isn't enough known about the competitors or judging process to set clear betting odds on it.

There are also limitations in certain states when it comes to placing props bets on individual athletes, and prohibitions on placing bets on competitors of a certain age. (The podium for skateboarding at the Tokyo Games, for example, had an average age of 14 according to The Conversation .)

Furthermore, the addition of breaking at the Olympics is to appeal to a younger crowd -- not a crowd looking to bet on the action.

"Adding those sports to the official Olympics roster is an attempt by the International Olympic Committee to reach a younger audience," NBC News 5 Chicago said, adding that the International Olympic Committee "hopes millions of kids worldwide will be inspired to take up the sports themselves."

Breaking is scheduled to make its Olympic debut on August 9.
