    Halifax PD says a juvenile is in custody after a shooting on Hedderly Street

    HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. ( WFXR ) – The Halifax Police Department says a man was injured in a shooting and an arrest has been made after an incident that occurred during the evening of July 22.

    Halifax PD says, that during the early evening on Monday, a call was received stating that someone had been shot on N. Main Street. HPD and a Halifax County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene to find a bystander giving first aid to a man lying on the sidewalk of Elam Street with a single gunshot wound.

    The two officers searched the immediate area for the gunman, as well as any possible remaining threat to the public.

    While waiting for EMS personnel to arrive on the scene, the victim claimed he was on Hedderly Street when two men approached him on foot. One of them allegedly fired a weapon into his vehicle, hitting him and causing his injury.

    The man was first taken to a local hospital and then to Duke Medical Center for further treatment.

    He is currently reported to be in stable condition.

    Another eyewitness said they believe they heard gunfire before seeing the two suspected gunmen run across LP Bailey Hwy and down behind the Jiffy store. A clothing description was also to investigators.

    A Halifax County Sheriff’s Office K9 unit was then called to assist with the investigation and attempted to track the suspects. While searching the area, a spent bullet casing was allegedly found.

    The Sheriff Department K9 Unit led law enforcement to a nearby home where a juvenile allegedly matching the description of one of the suspects fleeing the scene was found. Police say a handgun, a large quantity of narcotics, and an empty gun holster were also allegedly seized.
