SUGARCREEK TWP., Ohio ( WDTN ) — Plans are in place to transform a busy and dangerous four-way stop into a roundabout in Greene County.

The Greene County Engineer’s Office is currently in the design phase of a roundabout project planned for the intersection of Wilmington Dayton Road and Centerville Road in Sugarcreek Township.

The intersection is located in the southwest corner of Greene County, on the edge of an urban area, with Centerville to the northwest and Bellbrook just north. Drivers often utilize the intersection to get between the cities and the outer lying areas.

A safety study collected data from 28 crashes at the intersection between 2017 and 2021. The study found that most crashes were due to driver confusion as to who has the right of way, along with driver frustration associated with the long delays, often during evening rush hour.

Previously, the Engineer’s Office has added additional signage and lights to warn drivers of the upcoming four-way stop. While studying possible options, a new traffic signal was not recommended for this intersection.

Instead, a single-lane roundabout was found to be the safest solution.

The Engineer’s Office has secured funding for this project, and selected DLZ Ohio Inc. as the design consultant.

While the project will likely not begin until early 2026, the Engineer’s Office is reminding drivers to exercise caution around the intersection, as DLZ will be out performing tests and studies during the design process.
