LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) — Former Youngsville Police Chief Rickey Boudreaux has been disqualified from running for the job in the November election.
The ruling was made Wednesday afternoon in the 15th Judicial District Court.
“Didn’t go in my favor this time. We’ll see what the next election brings,” Boudreaux said.
Lafayette Parish District Attorney Donald Landry filed a motion to disqualify Boudreaux after being notified that he was not eligible to run in the special election called after Boudreaux resigned last year.
“I felt like if I did not fight for the position that I wanted, that I was not only doing myself a disservice, but the citizens of Youngsville,” Boudreaux said.
According to state law RS 18:586 , “No elected official who has retired or resigned from state or local elective office shall be eligible as a candidate at an election called to fill the vacancy created by the retirement or resignation of the elected official.” That law took effect June 6, 2023.
“I’m a firm believer that the people know what’s best for them, and they would be the ones to decide who they want as their elected officials,” Boudreaux said.
Boudreaux qualified for the election according to the Secretary of State’s website , but in order for the law to be enforced, a citizen of the City of Youngsville must file a challenge of his candidacy with the Lafayette Parish District Attorney’s Office , which would then investigate the challenge.

When News 10 spoke with Louis Perret with the Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court’s Office, and was told “I agree with the court’s ruling that the clerk of court performed its required duties and didn’t do anything wrong and we wish the parties well.”
“I say good luck to the other candidates in the race,” Boudreaux said. “I think the city is in a win win situation. They have good candidates to pick from and hopefully they will make the decision and that candidate can flourish in that position and the department can continue to grow.”
