USHL's 1st Black Coach Assists at Kraken Development Camp

Lennie Childs, the 32-year-old Maryland native, recently became the first Black head coach in the United States Hockey League with the Omaha Lancers in April. He returned to the bench this month for his second season as a guest coach for the blue team at the Kraken's development camp.

Coaching alongside the Kraken's player development director, Jeff Tambellini, Childs' enthusiastic approach lead his prospects to their second victory over the white team in this year's Stucky Cup.

The Kraken invited Childs as part of the NHL Coaches’ Association BIPOC Program, which specifically supports Black, Indigenous, coaches of color. Childs' experience includes two seasons as the assistant coach at Union College (Eastern College Athletic Conference), two seasons in the NCAA with Silver Springs, and three seasons with the Janesville Jets of the North American Hockey League.
