More than three-fifths of people in the United States agree with the statement that President Joe Biden’s “mental decline” is a national security threat, according to a new Rasmussen Reports survey . This sentiment represents the serious danger that stems from the president's weakness as commander in chief and his broad estrangement from the people.

That number includes 39% of Democrats and 62% of Independents. The Democratic percentage should be much higher, as it is difficult to fathom that 61% of Democrats don’t think Biden is a national security threat, but the report reveals the public’s deep dissatisfaction with the president.

Biden is indeed a national security threat. He has shown weakness ever since he took office. It started with the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, during which 13 soldiers were killed and a pristine U.S. base haphazardly abandoned. He has refused to unequivocally support Israel amid the conflict in Gaza despite the fact that Israel is a crucial ally of the United States. He even told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that "you're on your own" if Israel launched an attack on Iran.

Biden has also said recently that he doesn't think he should work after 8 p.m. Who will pick up the phone if a call comes in at 3 a.m. in the morning? Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, for all her faults, ran an ad in 2008 predicated upon the notion that the president needs to be sharp and available at all hours to deal with foreign conflict. How can we trust a commander in chief who may be too sleepy to protect his constituents?

That's not to mention the fact that he went out of his own way to open the southern border. All he had to do was leave the strong one that former President Donald Trump left him. Actively opening the country to human and drug traffickers is far worse than any of the aforementioned failures. Terrorists are streaming over our border: What will happen if these terrorists strike?

The country needs a strong, unifying leader if an attack on the country does happen. Biden's foreign policies are bad, yes, but he also would fail to reassure the public in the case of a crisis adequately. That in and of itself represents a national security threat. He most likely wouldn't even be able to deliver any speeches or addresses that are coherent.

This notion that Biden is dangerously unfit for duty ties into the fact that 49% of national likely voters agree with the statement, “Joe Biden is one of the worst presidents in American history.” Biden's approval rating took a hit following the Afghanistan withdrawal and he has never recovered. It’s almost comical to think that Biden thought he had a shot at reelection given these numbers.

Whoever it is that calls the shots behind the scenes clearly doesn’t tell him the truth regarding, well, almost anything. He told ABC News host George Stephanopoulos in an interview that none of his advisers had shown him polling data that suggested his shot at reelection was slim. We were also told for years that there wasn’t a border crisis. What lie will his handlers tell him next? Biden is a national security threat, but so too are the individuals behind the scenes who feed him false information and misguide his policies.
