Dogs have a way of effortlessly winning our hearts. Their loyalty, compassion, and carefree nature make them easy to adore. They're ideal hiking companions and equally terrific snuggle buddies while watching TV.

Even the big dogs enjoy cuddling up alongside us as much as the smaller ones. Sometimes, they seem to enjoy it even more. However, when dealing with a dog of massive size, closeness comes with its challenges.

See how this pup transformed into a huge lap dog in a video shared on July 9.

The beautiful boy was not small, even when he was a puppy. Now that he’s all grown up, he’s so big that he can barely fit on the couch next to Mom for their snuggle sessions. She’ll never have to worry about staying warm with a guy like this by her side, nor will she ever have to worry about someone breaking into the house. Even if he is a gentle giant (@ hergentlegiants ), it’s hard to imagine anyone willing to take a chance with this formidable fellow’s size. But I sure wouldn’t mind stealing a cuddle with him!

How Big Do Irish Wolfhounds Get?

The Irish Wolfhound is an ancient breed, with records dating back to 391 AD in Rome. These giant pups can reach a height of up to 3 feet at the shoulder and weigh between 120 and 180 pounds. Some are nearly 7 feet tall when standing on their hind legs! They have a powerful, muscular build, long legs, and a deep chest. Despite their size, they are calm and dignified, known for being friendly, affectionate, and good with children. They require regular exercise to stay healthy but have only moderate energy and are content with daily walks instead of runs. These large dogs should have a fenced-in yard for play and plenty of space to feel comfortable indoors.

People confirmed the gentle nature of this majestic breed. Viewer @novakova_nik responded, “My aunt had four of them (now only two), and all were this cuddly! Unluckily, I had only two hands, not four.” Ha! That can be a problem. Another pet parent reported, “Absolutely, both my female Wolfhounds view daddy as a pillow and with a combined weight of 340 lbs. I’ve stated this before when someone asked how it felt (Lovingly crushed).” Oh, my! That’s one way to describe it. Viewer @dr.mike_md confirmed, “Wolfhound cuddles are the best!” That certainly appears to be the case!

The more I learn about this exceptional breed, the more I want to cuddle one. Maybe one day, when I’m looking for another rescue, I’ll find an Irish Wolfhound searching for a home.
