Former New York Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin suggested that former President Donald Trump will discuss further U.S. support for Israel during his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu .

Netanyahu is set to meet with Trump on Friday, two days after addressing Congress on the war in Gaza.

Zeldin, who is Jewish and a former New York gubernatorial candidate, pointed to Trump’s past support for Israel during his first presidency, which included recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and launching the Abraham Accords.

“And now the real question is what else can we do to strengthen this alliance, to help Israel during this difficult time with facing existential threats from all around,” Zeldin said on Fox News’s The Story with Martha MacCallum. “And that’s really what should happen regardless of whether it’s a Democratic administration or a Republican administration, regardless of whoever’s in charge of Israel at any given time. But unfortunately, for domestic politics and because of what’s going on in Michigan and polling and an election coming up, we’re seeing a lot of hedging, playing both sides, and allowing a delay between our countries.”

Zeldin also spoke very negatively of Vice President Kamala Harris for choosing not to attend Netanyahu’s address, arguing that there was “nowhere more important” for her to be. Harris’s absence comes as she is currently the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee to replace President Joe Biden.

Others who opted not to attend Netanyahu’s speech included Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

Netanyahu’s speech was delivered Wednesday afternoon, during which he rebuked anti-Israel protesters within the United States as “Iran’s useful idiots.” He also praised the Biden administration’s response to the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack, calling America “Israel’s indispensable ally.”

Trump has shared his enthusiasm for his meeting with Netanyahu on Truth Social, which will be held at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida .
