‘You Control the Briefing Room, Not Peter’: Newsmax Reporter Clashes with Karine Jean-Pierre Amid Marathon Grilling by Fox News Correspondent

Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre allowed Fox News White House Correspondent Peter Doocy to pepper her with questions over several minutes on Wednesday, prompting James Rosen of Newsmax to interject.

Jean-Pierre held her first briefing since President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he is not seeking reelection, making Vice President Kamala Harris the presumptive Democratic nominee. Not surprisingly, the press corps had lots of questions.

At one point during the grilling, Doocy asked about Biden tasking Harris with addressing migrant crossings at the southern border.

“[S]he’s been in charge of root causes of migration for years,” Doocy said. “She has never spoken with the Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens or the Border Patrol chief before him, Raul Ortiz. What should that tell us about her leadership style?”

“She was supposed to be doing root causes dealing with diplomacy,” she replied. “Diplomacy. That’s what her job was supposed to be. Diplomatic. That’s the job.”

Jean-Pierre then noted that earlier this year, congressional Republicans tanked a bipartisan border and immigration bill after former President Donald Trump signaled his opposition to it.

“You guys reported that,” she said. “That’s not coming from me.”

She finished her response and as Doocy sat silently, she invited him to ask more questions:

JEAN-PIERRE: Go ahead.

DOOCY: Great.

[CROSSTALK]

ROSEN: You control the briefing room, not Peter. Come on.

DOOCY: One more.

ROSEN: Unbelievable.

DOOCY: I get that you don’t–

JEAN-PIERRE: It’s good to see you too, James.

Doocy asked his question and the briefing resumed without incident.
