To paint your ceiling or not to paint your ceiling - that is the question: whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of living with a boring ceiling, or to take your paint roller against that plain ceiling and by opposing... pizazz it? Alright, maybe the Shakespeare homage doesn't work super well here, but you get where I'm going with this: if you've got boring ceilings, do you make the painstaking effort to paint them, or do you leave 'em alone?

Before you decide one way or another, consider a third option: wallpapering your ceilings instead. That's what home renovator Eri did to her hallway ceiling, and the eye-catching result had other DIY decorators buzzing!

Absolutely thrilled with how it is turning out. Now i just need to figure out with to do with the vent // paint is half sea fog from @BEHR Paint // wallpaper is @Photowall // lights are linked in my amazon storefront!! #constructiontok

A while back, Eri bought a fixer-upper home with her sister Mads, and the two siblings have been documenting their home renovation journey on their joint TikTok, @zett_home . This hallway was actually a new addition that they built in, and while it was functional, it wasn't fabulous... at least, it wasn't until the wallpaper came out!

    Wallpapering a Ceiling

The sister could have simply painted the ceiling , but Eri had a better idea. She bought this gorgeous pink and blue floral peel-and-stick wallpaper from Photowall and painstakingly applied it to her ceiling piece by piece, taking time to carefully flatten and align every section. My shoulder muscles locked up just watching her at work, but when all was said and done, the outcome looked well worth the effort. The look was (mostly) completed with a painted trim using Behr's Half Sea Fog . It was elegant, feminine, and colorful without being overwhelming - a breathtaking contrast to the mundane white ceiling Eri'd started out with!

The sisters' followers loved it as much as I did. Wallpapering a ceiling is even more risky and difficult than painting it, but the payoff here was undeniable.

"Freaking sweet! High risk, but higher reward!" praised @kerryagoff.

"Imagine being a kid growing up with ceilings like this? I'd think my home was magical," marveled @luminance_ew.

"I love this! You are making me feel and think of ideas for my kinda-narrow hallway," said @mellisahill85.

    Finding the Perfect Finishing Touch

There was still one more problem, though - decorating the air vent to match the ceiling. Sure, a white vent in the middle of this gorgeous ceiling isn't the end of the world, but it clashes. In the comments, Eri said she was considering either painting it or trying to wallpaper it as well, but her followers suggested buying a decorative air vent cover instead. One commenter, @lawilliams_designs, specifically recommended Saba Home Decor , which has these beautiful metallic vent covers with ornate leaf patterned designs that would match Eri's wallpaper beautifully. And yes, I may or may not be taking notes for my own DIY renovation purposes...

Obviously, wallpapering a ceiling, even with peel-and-stick wallpaper , isn't for the faint of heart. It's just as laborious as painting a ceiling, but with the added hurdles of preventing wrinkles and getting the patterns to match up perfectly. However, if you're going to wallpaper a room's ceiling, doing so in a small space like this hallway is ideal, not just because there's less space to cover, but because it's also a great way to add decorative detail to a space you couldn't otherwise fit a whole lot into. Eri's DIY gambit paid off here, and I'm tempted to follow in her footsteps... provided I can schedule a recovery day complete with a full back massage afterwards!
