$60 million boost to Baldwin County athletic facilities, band, fine arts taking shape

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — Robertsdale High School looks more like a construction zone than a place of higher learning these days.

“I’ve heard all about it,” says Superintendent Eddie Tyler. “They need to take a breath and pretty soon, it’s going to be a beautiful site.”

More than $6 million is being spent on a new gym, a new band room, and other improvements.

A new baseball field house is among the improvements coming to Foley High School, along with the Lady Lions getting some new digs and a new band room.

Next door in Elberta, the stadium has already had some upgrades, including a new turf field, one of three currently at or coming to area high schools.

“Elberta High School turf field, Daphne turf field, Spanish Fort turf field,” says Tyler.

Work has begun on the Toros’ new field, which will also include some high-tech lighting, just like their rivals to the south in Daphne.

Jubilee Field is ready for some Trojan football, and everyone is invited to see all the new features next week.

Also, on the Eastern Shore, Fairhope High School is getting a new gym and multi-purpose training facility, and additional parking is already waiting for the first day of school.

A new gym is under construction at Baldwin County High School in Bay Minette. It, too, will be getting one of those three new band rooms.

“All of our campuses are kind of going through a turnover,” says Tyler.

So, there still may be some moving parts when students return to campus but the result will be worth it.

In all, more than $42 million in athletic enhancements, $9 million for band room expansions, and $6 million for additional campus parking, all totaling just under $60 million in improvements.

More than half of the $57.2 million comes from the City of Orange Beach’s payment to break away from the county system. The rest comes from sales tax revenue.
