HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A woman is raising money to help a family going through a tragic ordeal.

According to the Henrico County Division of Police, on July 5, 25-year-old Howquana Kara Bugg was walking on the side of Nine Mile Road while carrying her 21-month-old infant when a driver heading west struck them.

Bugg died four days after the crash and the driver, who is believed to have driven either a silver 2012-2014 Nissan Sentra or silver 2009-2018 Nissan Altima, is still at large.

Faith Sprouse, a central Virginia woman, said she heard about the incident online and felt compelled to help Daimonte Bugg, Howquana’s husband, even though she’s never met him.

“Money isn’t out there just for people to grab, thinking of what care the little boy would need,” Sprouse said. “Nobody thinks about that. All they think about is, ‘Oh, my God, what was she doing out there?’”

Sprouse decided to create a GoFundMe page to help the family with expenses. She said the same thing happened to a close friend who was walking home on the wrong side of the road.

“She was hit and left to die,” Sprouse said about her friend. “If she were to get proper medical care at the time, she would [be alive] with her family. We’re all devastated because we’re like, we’re best friends. We’re best friends forever.”

Though the feeling of Bugg’s loss is still there, Sprouse hopes the donations can ease Diamonte’s pain, even for a little while.

“He’s just appreciative,” Sprouse said about Diamonte. “the more I talked to him, the more I felt like, ‘Hey, I know him.’ You know, he’s close and nobody deserves to go through this.”

Henrico Police is still looking for the driver and is asking residents to share information related to this case with them if they have any.

“This vehicle should have significant damage to the front passenger side due to the collision,” the July 22 release reads. “Investigators request auto body shops to be on the lookout for damage to this section of the vehicle which would be consistent with a serious crash.”

Anyone with information related to this case is asked to call Henrico Police at 804-501-5000.
