Simone Biles' Husband Jonathan Owens Delivers Strong Message to Critics Ahead of Paris Olympics

Simone Biles's husband has an approach to handling critics of his gold medalist wife.

He's not listening.

Jonathan Owens, the Chicago Bears safety and Biles' husband, spoke out this week as she traveled overseas for the start of the Paris Olympics. Speaking to the New York Post, Owens said he and his wife are choosing not to listen to the "noise."

“The easiest way [to handle it] is just, try to tune out the noise because people are always going to have something to say whether you’re doing good or bad,” said Owens, who is taking a leave from training camp to support his wife at the Olympics. “So the best thing to do is do it your way and just be your authentic self because this is where you want to be in life."

Biles faces criticism in her last Summer Games after deciding to pull out of several events while suffering physical and mental health concerns. The gold medalist told The Associated Press that she learned to take a similar approach and drown out critics of her decision.

“They’ll still say like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re going to quit again? Or are you going to quit again?’ And like, and ‘If I did, what are you going to do about it? Tweet me some more?’” Biles said. “Like I’ve already dealt with it for three years. But yeah, they want to see us fail.”
