HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Delta passengers all over the country, including at Richmond International Airport (RIC) in Henrico County, are fed up with the airline after days of delays and cancellations since last week’s global tech outage .

An RIC spokesperson told 8News that, as of 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, only one Delta flight was delayed — a ten-hour delay for a flight headed to Boston.

Deanna Thoma told 8News she was all set to fly back from California to Dulles International Airport in Loudoun County on Saturday morning. However, after the global tech outage hit on Friday, her plans suddenly had to change.

“We got through security, we looked up and our flight had been canceled completely,” Thoma said. “This woman looked at us and she said, ‘If you’re flying to Atlanta, we can’t do anything for you.'”

After almost having to take a flight to Utah without any connecting flight to the East Coast, she decided enough was enough.  She ultimately ended up booking a $1,500 flight with a different airline to get back home.

On Tuesday, when she finally touched back down on the East Coast, she could felt relief but also a bit of frustration.

“I want my money back, because I tried to go through and get a refund and all I got was $400 for two tickets, which is nothing compared to the money that we had to spend on our hotel and food — and our flight home especially,” Thoma said.

Delta is under investigation for its response to the technology breakdown in its aftermath, which Thoma can stand behind after her experience.

“Delta is going to have a reckoning coming to them, because everyone that I’ve known that has flown Delta is just getting absolutely screwed right now,” Thoma said. “I think that I’m honestly, like surprised that they haven’t gotten it figured out, even though all the other airlines got it figured out.”

8News has reached out to Delta Airlines for a comment for this story and is still waiting to hear back.
