Two men have drowned in the Raleigh Beach area of the Neuse River this week.

After an approximate 10-hour search, the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, along with partnering agencies, recovered a drowning victim at approximately 11:20 a.m. Wednesday.

The identity of the man will be released pending notification of his next of kin.

WCSO said it would like to thank the Knightdale Fire Department, Wake Forest Fire Department, Wake County Emergency Management, Wake County EMS, Raleigh Police Department, Youngsville Dive Team, Nash County Sheriff’s Office, Durham County Sheriff’s Office, Durham County EMS, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and Raleigh Fire Department for responding and assisting in the search.

“The Wake County Sheriff’s Office sends our deepest condolences to the victim’s loved ones,” Sheriff Willie Rowe said. “As more residents find relief from the heat in our county rivers and lakes, our office is collaborating with local agencies on increased awareness and education.”

The drowning is the second in a week at that location.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday, WCSO reported it was responding to a report of a drowning on the Neuse River.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., emergency communications received a report of a possible drowning near the Neuse River Greenway Trail and Loch Raven Parkway. According to witnesses, an adult male was in the water and never resurfaced.
