    Florida Department of Education releases 2024 school grades

    BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – The Florida Department of Education released school grades on Wednesday to the state’s 67 school districts.

    The school grades determine the county’s overall grade. Here is how the districts stacked up in our area:

    Calhoun Liberty, Okaloosa, and Walton counties all received “A” grades. Bay, Holmes, and Jackson counties all earned “B.” And Franklin, Gulf, and Washington counties scored “C.”

    As for Bay County, here are the local high school grades:

    Amikids Maritime Academy improved from a “B” in 2023 to an “A” in 2024, all the other high schools maintained the same grade from year to year. Bozeman received an “A.” Arnold and Mosley scored “B.” Bay and Rutherford both scored “C.”

    At the middle school level:

    Surfside jumped from a “B” to an “A,” North Bay Haven Charter also scored an “A.” Bay Haven’s charter dropped from an “A” to a “B.” Mowat also earned a “B.” Jinks and Merritt brown both received “C” grades.

    In the elementary schools:

    Callaway was the top performer for the entire district, jumping two spots from a “C” in 2023 to an “A” in 2024. The rest of the “A” schools are Hutchinson Beach up from a “B,” North Bay Haven Charter, Patronis, and Tyndall Academy. The “B” schools are Palm Bay and Waller who both jumped up from “C” in 2023.

    Lynn Haven, Southport, Walsingham Academy and West Bay all maintained “B” in 2024. Merriam Cherry Street School improved from a “D” in 2023 to a “C” in 2024. Deer Point, Hiland Park, Lucille Moore, Northside, Parker, and Tommy Smith all maintained “C”.

    Other schools with k-12, k-8, and 6-12 all did well. Bay Virtual School scored an “A”. So did Deane Bozeman School, Rising Leaders Academy, Bay Haven, Breakfast Point Academy, and University Academy. Palm Bay prep improved to a “B.”

    Cedar Grove improved from an “F” school in 2023 to a “D” school in 2024. Oscar Patterson Academy just reopened in 2024 and scored an “F.”

    District officials said they’re working to improve not only those 2 schools but all schools across the board.
