TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) — With President Biden set to address the country on Wednesday night for the first time since his monumental decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential election , East Texas representatives are now speaking out if they feel he should resign from the presidency.

In a statement to KETK, East Texas Representative Pete Sessions said, “I do not think Biden should resign the presidency. The standard for stepping down from your duty to the American people is complete incapacitation.”

“Everybody knew he was older,” Sessions said. “They picked him. They felt like he would be sturdy enough for four years.”

U.S. Rep. Nathaniel Moran said he brought up Biden’s competency in April and even questioned a few months ago if he should have even remained in the presidential race. In a statement to KETK, Moran continued to question Biden’s ability to run the country before his four years are up.

“President Biden’s mental fitness for office has been in serious question for some time. His lack of mental acuity presents a major threat to national security now that the entire world has seen it on full display in prime time. It is clear to me that others in the White House have likely been making the major decisions for the President for a while now. And, if he resigns, I suspect those same individuals will continue to make those major decisions while Kamala Harris campaigns for November. It is shameful that the Democratic Party has hidden this from the American people, and it is shameful that they continue to make decisions at this moment in history based primarily on politics. If Biden is not fit to be his party’s nominee, he is not fit to serve now.”

People can tune into KETK or FOX 51 at 7 p.m. to watch the president address the nation from the oval office just days after testing positive for COVID-19.
