SUMMERSVILLE, WV (WVNS) – The Nicholas County Fair is back and better than ever.

Whether you’re here for the animals, the food, or even the rides, the fair has something for everyone.

The fair’s been going strong for 99 years, an event that predates the start of World War 2.

    Voters excited for upcoming elections

President Michelle Underwood said this is much more than a fair, it’s a glimpse into the history of Nicholas County.

“Following the presidents that did this before me, I feel humbled that I could do this. It’s very near and dear to me, and anybody that knows me the fair has become my passion.”

The fair started with the raising of the flag. Then the rides became open to the public.

If you’re not a fan of the bull riding or crazy slide, they have their fair share of games.

Fair representatives are excited for this year’s festivities.

“The fair has become a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have attended almost every single year, it’s such an amazing time. Because our community is very small and their really isn’t much to do so you best believe when the fair comes around, everyone comes together to having a great time.”

It doesn’t matter if you’re an adult or a kid, all can come out and enjoy.

Underwood knows next year is a big one with the fair’s 100th anniversary.

Registering for voting in the new election season

For now, she’ll sit back and enjoy the sights and sounds for the next couple of days.

“I grew up here in Summersville. I came to the fair every day. My parents would drop us off here and they would feel comfortable. You can bring your kids here and they’re going to be safe.”
