    AMC theaters in NJ will host daily Summer Olympics watch parties

    NBCUniversal is teaming up with movie theater chain AMC to bring live coverage from the 2024 Summer Olympics to the big screen for the first time.

    Across the county, 160 AMC locations will broadcast select live daytime coverage from Paris. Eight are in New Jersey: Cherry Hill, Clifton, Edison, Paramus, Elizabeth, New Brunswick, Rockaway and Eatontown.

    Presented as a ticketed event, the series starts July 26 when the opening ceremony will play at more than 150 IMAX theaters nationwide. Locally, several IMAX venues in New Jersey will show the celebration, including Paramus, Clifton, Cherry Hill, Edison and Rockaway.

    The traditional parade of athletes will take place in boats along the Seine River instead of inside of a stadium. Almost 100 boats carrying an estimated 10,500 athletes will float along the waterway. The route passes several iconic Parisian landmarks, like Notre Dame, the Louvre, Grand Palais and the Eiffel Tower.

    Daily watch parties will kick off July 27 with screenings of four-hour blocks of events. Screenings will continue through Aug. 11, the last day of the games.

    AMC standard theaters will show the following competitions :





    • July 27: Swimming Finals and Beach Volleyball


    • July 28: U.S. Men's Basketball, Swimming and Beach Volleyball


    • July 29: Men's Gymnastics and Swimming Finals


    • July 30: Women's Gymnastics and Swimming Finals


    • July 31: Men's All Around Finals, Swimming Finals and 3x3 Basketball


    • Aug. 1: Gymnastics, Women's All Around Finals and Swimming Finals


    • Aug. 2: Track and Field, Swimming Finals and U.S. Beach Volleyball


    • Aug. 3: U.S. Men's Basketball, Track and Swim Finals


    • Aug. 4: Track and Field, Swimming Finals and Beach Volleyball


    • Aug. 5: Track Finals and 3x3 Basketball Finals


    • Aug. 6: Track Finals and U.S. Beach Volleyball


    • Aug. 7: Track Finals and U.S. Beach Volleyball


    • Aug. 8: Track Finals and Beach Volleyball Semifinals


    • Aug. 9: Women's Basketball Semifinal, Gymnastics and Women's Beach Volleyball Final


    • Aug. 10: Track Finals and Men's Basketball Gold Medal


    • Aug. 11: Closing ceremony

    Standard tickets range from $9.50 to $12 and can be purchased through AMC and Fandango. Tickets for the opening ceremony in IMAX cost $25.

    Gary Zenkel, president of NBC Olympics, commented, “The Olympic Games always provide a wonderful, shared experience, and this summer communities across the country will have the opportunity to cheer for Team USA or their own hometown hero in local AMC Theatres.”

    “The afternoon broadcasts on NBC will offer many of the most compelling live moments from Paris, and we believe these gatherings will fuel overall enthusiasm for the Games," Zenkel said.

    Adam Aron, chairman and CEO of AMC, said, “We are excited to extend NBC’s daily live coverage of the Paris Olympic Games to AMC Theatres across the country, allowing fans to gather and watch the drama, intrigue, and spectacle of the Summer Games this July."


    Forbes noted that while AMC won’t have on-site betting , viewers in sports betting states can also place wagers on the Olympics from their mobile devices.

    In addition to AMC theaters, the entire Summer Olympics will air exclusively on NBC’s networks and streaming services NBC, NBCSN, CNBC, USA Network, the Olympic Channel, the Golf Channel, Telemundo Deportes, NBCOlympics.com and Peacock.
