The high school girls volleyball season is right around the corner with the start of official practices less than a week away.
It will be a new era in Ohio high school volleyball with the recent division expansion set to take place during the 2024-25 school year. Instead of four divisions, Ohio high school volleyball will now feature seven divisions during postseason play. Last year was the end of the four division era as the Ohio High School Athletic Association will now crown seven state championship teams .
The 2023 OHSAA semifinal and championship matchups were:
Division I
Kings Mills Kings (27-1) def. Cleveland St. Joseph Academy (23-5) 25-23, 25-27, 27-29, 15-9
Lewis Center Olentangy Orange (26-3) def. Toledo St. Ursula Academy (19-9) 25-21, 25-22, 25-20
Division I State Championship: Kings Mills Kings (28-1) def. Lewis Center Olentangy Orange (26-4) 25-16, 25-10, 25-21
Division II

When is the first day of Ohio high school volleyball practice?
The first day of coaching will be Aug. 1, on par with many fall sports across the state. First day previews will be permitted on Aug. 2 with scrimmages to follow in over the next two weeks.
When are the first games for Ohio high school volleyball?
The regular-season officially begins on Friday, Aug. 16 as the first official games are allowed to be scheduled and played. Many teams will wait until Saturday, Aug. 17 to start the season with Aug. 16 slated to host Friday Night Futbol, a state-wide initiative to promote soccer.
When do the Ohio high school state volleyball playoffs begin?
The regular season will run from Aug. 16-Oct. 14 when the sectional round of the tournament is slated to get underway. The statewide tournament draw will be Oct. 6 where teams will learn their tournament trails as well as who, when and where they will play in the postseason. The district tournament will run from Oct. 21-26 with the regional tournament Oct. 28-Nov. 2.
When are the Ohio high school volleyball championships?
The Ohio high school volleyball state championships are scheduled to run from Nov. 7-9 with the state championships at Wright State University. With the expansion to seven divisions, the details and schedules are still being worked out by the OHSAA as well as where and how to host the 14 state semifinal matches.
It is believed the semifinal games will be held at high schools around Wright State University in Dayton with the finals scheduled for the two following days. Details are still being discussed.
