Dominik Szoboszlai confirms Liverpool's two big targets for new season under Arne Slot

Dominik Szoboszlai is back in action for Liverpool following his involvement with Hungary at Euro 2024 and will be aiming to kick-on from an impressive first season with the Reds.

However, this time around, there is new management in charge and things are expected to switch up from last season under Jurgen Klopp . While the majority of the squad has had just one manager during their Liverpool careers, Szboszlai is already on his second.

Klopp created a legacy at Anfield and became notorious for his gegenpressing style of play, usually opting for a 4-3-3 formation that saw him win every trophy on offer across a nine year spell. Chosen to replace him ahead of the 2024-25 season was Arne Slot , a relative unknown who guided Feyenoord to a second-place finish in the Eredivisie last season.

Along with his dynamic, attacking and possession-based football, Slot was also chosen by Liverpool for his ability to develop young players. But as it's his first season at the helm, as well as in the English game, it's natural to assume the expectations won't be quite as high for the Dutchman to deliver in 2024-25.

According to Szoboszlai, however, that is not the case, with the Hungarian explaining that the bar has been raised, if anything. Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com , he said: "It can always be better. Last year we finished third and won the Carabao Cup.

"This year, [the] Champions League is back again – where we belong – and we want to show ourselves there as well. We are going for the Premier League again."

While there may be doubters over what Liverpool can achieve under Slot this season, Szoboszlai's words will be music to the ears of Reds fans. Having a manager that wants to come in and hit the ground running immediately can only be a good thing, even if he has to go up against the likes of Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta.

Nonetheless, Liverpool is hoping to fight once more for the Premier League and improve on last term's third-place finish in which they finished nine points behind eventual champions Manchester City . A return to Europe's primary competition is also a major bonus.

And even if the lack of transfer activity on the red half of Merseyside has been cause for concern, Slot appears to be going full throttle into his first campaign regardless. Of course, only time will tell if he is the man for the job, but setting out high ambitions is a great way to get fans on his side.

As for Szoboszlai himself, he feels as though he is ready to kick-on once more. "I'm feeling very good, getting ready for the new season," he said. "Big games ahead of us, big season, new challenges, so I think everybody is getting ready."

Following his move from RB Leipzig last summer, the 23-year-old made 45 appearances across all competitions for the Reds, scoring seven goals and providing four assists, including two strikes in Liverpool's run to winning the Carabao Cup final.
