Andy Murray has confirmed that he won't be playing another tennis singles match in his illustrious career. Instead, he'll shine the spotlight on doubles at Paris 2024 , as he believes that's where his hopes for a medal are greatest.

The British Wimbledon champion of two occasions announced on Tuesday that the upcoming Olympics would mark the end of his journey as a tennis player. However, instead of playing solo, he will be partnered with Dan Evans to compete in the doubles category. His decision came amid truths about his physical fitness not being up to par for single's play.

Murray elaborated on the decision saying: "Obviously me and Dan have made the commitment to each other that (doubles) was what we were going to prioritise. That gives the team and us the best opportunity to get a medal, realistically. My back is still not perfect and the potential of playing two matches in a day is maybe not the best."

At age 37, Murray had managed to recover from a spinal cyst surgery and even bid an emotional farewell three weeks prior on Centre Court at Wimbledon, playing alongside brother Jamie.

Despite disappointment over fellow British champ Emma Raducanu's last-minute withdrawal from their proposed mixed doubles game, Murray holds no resentment. His mother, Judy, initially criticized Raducanu's manners as "astonishing" on Twitter but eventually disclosed the tweet was sarcastic.

Nevertheless, looking back at his journey Murray noted: "When I reflect on that, it was right that I finished playing at Wimbledon with my brother. I'm really happy that was the end.

"At that moment everyone was really emotional because it's the end of me playing at Wimbledon, but I'm aware that there's a much bigger world and a much bigger picture out there."

"Everyone is going to look out for their best interests - that's what they do. I understand that and I don't have an issue with that. My mum's obviously always going to support me and look out for my best interests. She's been the best supporter."
