    Andy Murray.

Andy Murray, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, has withdrawn from the singles competition in the 2024 Paris Olympics to focus on doubles. The Olympiad will officially mark his farewell from tennis.

Murray's withdrawal means the final singles match of his career was against Australia's Jordan Thompson in the second round at Queen's in June, a match he pulled out of due to a back injury. The same injury forced him to withdraw from Wimbledon singles last month.

Murray officially retires from singles tennis with three major wins and 46 ATP Tour titles, including 14 Masters 1000 championships.

The 37-year-old issued a statement Thursday to confirm that he will team up with Dan Evans at the 2024 Paris Olympics, hoping to capture another Olympic medal in doubles. The pair will face Japan's Taro Daniel and Kei Nishikori in the first round on Sunday.

"I’ve taken the decision to withdraw from the singles to concentrate on the doubles with Dan," Murray said, via BBC . "Our practice has been great and we're playing well together. Really looking forward to getting started and representing GB one more time."

With Murray's withdrawal, Team Great Britain will be represented by Evans, Jack Draper and Cameron Norrie in the men's singles draw.

In 2016, Murray became the first player to win two singles Olympic gold medals after triumphing at the 2012 London Olympics and 2016 Rio Olympics. He remains the only player to achieve the feat in the Open era of tennis. The Briton also grabbed a mixed doubles silver medal with Laura Robson at the 2012 Games in front of his home fans.

This year's Olympic tennis tournament will be played at Roland Garros, giving Spaniards and other clay-court experts a distinct advantage over other countries. To that end, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz will be teaming up for the first time and are the overwhelming favorites to capture gold for Spain.
