(Alabama)- In March 2024, Dollar Tree announced to Alabama residents that the company planned to close 600 Family Dollars stores in the first half of fiscal 2024. At that time, the company refrained from disclosing which stores would be impacted by the closures and reported a gross profit increase of 4.3% to $9.31 billion.

With the year being halfway over, minimum news sources have reported the factual number of Family Dollar locations affected by the closure in Alabama. Luckily, I was able to find two sources with some insight into which locations are no longer operable.

    Closed Stores in Alabama

According to CBS News, the Slocomb Family Dollar, located at 534 Lawrence Street, was one of many stores that closed as a part of the liquidation process. Inside MGM News published an article confirming that in Montgomery, five stores have closed thus far in 2024. Those locations were:

    • 4949 Mobile Hwy.
    • 3760 Norman Bridge Rd.
    • 3485 Woodley Rd.
    • 3619 East Blvd.
    • 5771 Kyser Ct.

During the closure of each store, items were subject to discounts ranging from 20% to 50%.

Family Dollar's Employee Pay vs. Living in Alabama

In July 2024, Career Bliss reported the average salary of a Dollar General employee in Alabama is $14 per hour or $30,000 annually. This is 75% below the national salary average of $66,000 annually. MIT's Living Wage Calculator estimates single adults in Alabama without kids must earn at least $41,911 before taxes to live comfortably.
