William Moseley starred as Prince Liam on the E! series The Royals for four seasons, a role that he loved due to its ability to let him continue to work on a character over a longer period of time.

In a conversation with ComingSoon, Moseley was asked about the difference between working on a show like The Royals and being in a movie. Moseley said that he enjoyed getting to develop a character over four separate seasons.

“Yeah, I really enjoyed The Royals because I liked to develop the character, and I really thought [creator Mark Schwahn]’s writing was excellent,” Moseley said. “He developed the characters really, really well, and he adapted them to our personalities. I think Mark realized I wanted to make the character probably a bit more serious on The Royals than in the first season.

“Like, I dunno whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but I wanted to embrace the drama, embrace the pain in the character, embrace the edge of his personality, that his dad’s dead and he’s gonna fight and he’s gonna get revenge. I wanted that to come through, and I wanted to play that part. So Mark wrote a really fantastic arc for me.”

Moseley opens up about The Royal’s cancellation

Moseley also opened up about the show’s cancellation, lamenting that they couldn’t wrap up the show in a way that would’ve been good for fans. Despite that, Moseley is glad the show resonated with fans even to this day.

“Obviously, I was really disappointed that we didn’t wrap the show up properly,” said Moseley. “Like, I didn’t feel, but those things are out of an actor’s hands. You can only do what you’re asked to do. I was very grateful for the run of the show. I mean, audiences have loved it, and I’ve met lots of people who have seen it and really enjoyed it

Moseley starred in the E! series as Prince Liam Henstridge, the second son to King Simon and Queen Helena, and a twin to Eleanor and heir to the throne following the death of his brother, Robert.

The Royals originally debuted in 2015 and ran through 2018, when the series was canceled. Although Lionsgate tried to find a new home for the series following its cancellation, no buyers picked up the series, leaving it ending after 40 episodes.
