Netflix is set to treat fans with multiple Korean releases in August 2024. From K-dramas and movies to reality shows, the streamer will host numerous titles for viewers to enjoy. Some of the upcoming projects include Lovely Runner, Love Next Door, and The Influencer.
While Lovely Runner and Love Next Door are romance-comedy dramas, The Influencer is a reality series. Netflix will also premiere an action-comedy movie, Mission Cross, and a variety show titled A-List to Playlist.
Here’s a list of the Netflix Korean releases in August 2024.
Lovely Runner
Lovely Runner is a 2024 K-drama that was originally broadcast on tvN and streamed on Rakuten Viki. Soon, the series garnered immense popularity and now Netflix has decided to release it on their platform. All 16 episodes will be released on Thursday, August 1, 2024. Furthermore, the series is based on the webtoon, The Best of Tomorrow, by Kim Bbang.
The storyline revolves around Im Sol (Kim Hye-Yoon), an ardent fan of Ryu Sun-Jae (Byeon Woo-Seok), a lead vocalist of the fictional K-pop band Eclipse. One day, his sudden demise leaves her heartbroken. She magically transports 10 years back. Now, she is a high school student with Sun-Jae as her neighbor. Im Sol befriends him and decides to save him from his tragic future by changing his past.
Love Next Door is a new K-drama, which will air on tvN and stream on Netflix. Starring Jung Hae-In and Jung So-Min, the upcoming series will premiere on August 12, 2024. It tells the story of Choi Seung-Hyo and Bae Seok-Ryu. Seung-Hyo is a handsome and noteworthy young architect who runs a workshop, In. Meanwhile, Seok-Ryu is a hyperactive yet passionate woman who works hard as a project manager in a big company. But, somehow, she quits her job. One day, they bump into each other and recall their past.
They have spent their childhood together because their mothers were best friends. They share many memories but what happens when they meet as adults? Renowned filmmaker, Yoo Je-Won, has directed the project. He is known for his work in Crash Course in Romance, Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, and The King: Eternal Monarch.
The Influencer
The Influencer is an upcoming Korean reality show, which will premiere on August 6, 2024. The concept centers around a bunch of popular South Korean influencers competing to prove who is the best. On Netflix, the synopsis reads, “YouTube, TikTok, Instagram — 77 elite influencers flaunt their skills to strategically draw the most attention in this high-stakes social survival show.”
Some of the influencer participants include RISABAE, PaniBottle, Shim Euddeum, Jang Keun-Suk, and Sia_jiwoo & KEJIMIN. The social survival reality series is co-directed by Lee Jae-Seok and Son Soo-Jeong
A-List to Playlist
A-List to Playlist is one of the Netflix Korean releases in August 2024. It is Jo Jung-Suk’s variety show where he will debut as a singer. With 20 years of experience in acting, he will now showcase his journey to be a music artist. Although it says it’s his debut, Jung-Suk’s fans have heard his voice in the past. He has sung multiple songs in his popular K-drama, Hospital Playlist.
The reality show will premiere on the streamer on August 30, 2024. Furthermore, the actor will also introduce some of his friends who help in his latest venture.
Mission Cross
Mission Cross is an upcoming South Korean movie, releasing on August 9, 2024. Starring Hwang Jung-Min and Yeom Jung-Ah, it is an action comedy film. Airing on Netflix, its synopsis reads, “In the ultimate test of marriage, an agent-turned-househusband gets tangled in a perilous mission with his detective wife, who’s clueless about his past.” Filmmaker Lee Myung-Hoon has directed the project.
