Jon Rahm wants to call meeting with LIV Golf stars over making change to breakaway league

Jon Rahm is hoping to see some sort of links golf added to the LIV Golf schedule in the future, with the Spaniard keen to discuss the potential change with his fellow players.

Rahm became LIV's marquee signing ahead of the 2024 season, signing a deal worth a reported $600 million, which included the formation of his Legion XIII franchise. Since making the Saudi switch, the former Masters champion had struggled to find his best form at the majors, but this changed at The Open Championship last week.

In testing conditions, Rahm battled his way into a tied-seventh finish at Royal Troon. On the back of the grueling Scottish test, Rahm revealed this week that he would like to see links golf added to the LIV schedule to help players prepare for the final major of the year.

"I’m pushing for [links golf],” he told Golf Digest ahead of this week's LIV event in the UK. “There’s so much that goes into adjusting to links golf; getting used to the greens and the ball reacting on the ground. I didn’t think about it until after [Troon], but it’s undeniable how much it helps to play a links golf course the week before the Open.”

The plans are already in place for LIV's 2025 schedule, meaning the Spaniard will have to wait to make his links dream a reality for now. Keen to push his idea though, Rahm is hoping to gauge the interest of his fellow players on the Saudi-backed circuit to push forward the plan.

"Obviously, LIV management has contracts in place with some venues and plans in the future,” he added. “It’s not as easy as it sounds to just say, ‘Well, let’s do this.’ It’d be something I would like to talk to other players [on LIV] about because that way, there’s strength in numbers if five, six or 10 solid players [agree].

"I think a lot of people might agree with it.” The iconic Troon links truly bared its teeth in the third round of The Open last Saturday, as players were faced with swirling rain and brutal winds throughout their third round. Rahm found himself caught in the chaotic conditions midway through his round, with the severity of the wind and rain catching him by surprise.

"I didn't know that it was going to turn as difficult as it did," he said in the aftermath last weekend. "I thought, from what I saw in the [weather] app -- it's hard to do, right -- if the rain came, it wasn't going to be too windy. Man, did it turn quickly?" A day later Rahm tried his best to battle his way into contention in the final round.

Flying out the blocks, the two-time major winner birdied his first three holes, before adding another the seventh to move to four-under-par for the day. His momentum stopped there though, failing to make his mark on the back-nine, eventually ending the week eight shots behind Xander Schauffele, who carded a final round six-under 65 to get his hands on the Claret Jug.
