The family of Jay Slater, 19, who tragically died after a fall in Tenerife , are finding "very small comfort" in the likelihood that he passed away instantly, based on his autopsy results.

Matthew Searle, head honcho at LBT Global, the charity supporting the Slater family since Jay vanished on June 17, told the Independent: "Chances are if he did fall from a height where we saw the recovery teams searching, then it's very unlikely he would have known much about it."

"That takes away the horrible nightmare idea that he fell and was waiting for help that never came . It's very small comfort, but it is some."

The young lad's body was discovered on July 15 in the steep Juan Lopez ravine, not far off from his last phone signal. An initial post-mortem hinted that Jay's death might've been caused by "a fall or plunge from height".

A spokesperson for the Civil Guard remarked on Jay's severe injuries, including multiple fractures: "The body of the man located yesterday has been identified of that as Jay Slater through fingerprint comparison and identification."

"The result of the preliminary autopsy points to the cause of death being a fall or plunge from height due to the broken bones he suffered."

Jay ended up in the dangerous part of the ravine after leaving an Airbnb he had been sharing with two Brits. He had jetted off to Tenerife with mates for a music fest.

Lucy Law, a friend of the teenager, is believed to have been the last person he spoke to on the phone. He called her around 8.15am on June 17, telling her he was attempting to walk back to their accommodation in Los Cristianos, southwestern Tenerife, from the Masca area in the north, a journey that would take approximately 11 hours on foot.

He also mentioned to his friend that he had no water, had injured himself on a cactus and his phone battery was down to just 1 per cent.

The exact location where Jay was found was reportedly significant for his family, as it gave them a place to honor their loved one by leaving flowers and cards.
