With Haason Reddick absent, the Jets see opportunities for other pass rushers

Haason Reddick’s minicamp holdout is a potential opportunity for the New York Jets to get a look at some of the young pass rushers on their roster.

Reddick, whom the Jets acquired in a trade this offseason, is in the final year of his contract. Coming off four straight seasons where he has registered at least 11 sacks, Reddick is seeking a pay raise or a new contract.

For Jets head coach Robert Saleh, not having Reddick in training camp is certainly not ideal. But the Jets do have some young talent on their two-deep that are stepping up into bigger roles in training camp.

In terms of Reddick missing time from training camp, Saleh told reporters that he isn’t focused on that.

“I’m not worried about that. To be honest with you, I’m actually excited for Will McDonald, and Takk McKinley who’s trying to resurrect his career, and Micheal Clemons getting more opportunities,” Saleh told the media on Wednesday.

“There’s a bunch of guys getting more opportunities. There’s a bunch of guys on this team that are going to get reps that they would not have necessarily gotten with him being here. I see it more as an opportunity to really work their craft and find ways to get better and force their way onto the football field.”

Reddick’s current contract calls for a base salary of $14.25 million this season.

Last season, Reddick had 38 total tackles and 11 sacks.
