MONROE COUNTY — Sure, there is plenty to do at this year's Monroe County Fair , which kicks off July 28, and plenty to see as well. But seriously though, let's be honest — the food at the fair is amazing, and these fairground delicacies are reason enough to head out to the event, right?

There is no shame in admitting that, none at all.

Taking in some of the many events and happenings at the fair while enjoying a funnel cake or steak bites or shaved ice is part of the Monroe County Fair experience.

Some of the most unique, wonderful, tasty and mouth-watering dishes ever created can be found with a walk around the fairgrounds during the week of the fair.

Whether it's the cotton candy, which has been around the fair scene since the early 20th century, or corndogs (which were created in the early 1940s), or the timeless funnel cake, which dates back to the 17th century! The food at the fair has been a delightful part of the entire experience for just about everyone who walks through the gates. It's even nostalgic for many, one bite of those vinegar fries evoking memories of being at the fair as a child, or with some special friends or family.

With that in mind, we at The Monroe News wanted to know which of these fairground delicacies gets the community most excited? So, we first went to social media to get some nominations — and we got plenty. Over 60 folks commented on our post in 24 hours, each campaigning for their favorite fair food.

"Love the Wisconsin cheese," one commenter posted.

"A corn dog, fair fries and a funnel cake," posted another. "A happy fair goer I will be!"

We narrowed the list of nominations down to 10, and now we're asking you, the Monroe County Fair faithful, to cast your vote and officially, sort of, crown a Monroe County Fair food champion.

You can vote as many times as you like, and feel free to share this poll with as many folks as you like. Voting will remain open until 11:59 p.m. Saturday, July 27. Be sure to check back next week for the results.
