The former prosecutor versus the convicted felon is the latest twist in the 2024 presidential election.

Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic candidate, is using her prosecutor’s background to campaign against businessman and former President Donald Trump, who has been found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

Since President Joe Biden withdrew from the 2024 race , American voters now face an unusual choice between two candidates who are almost diametric opposites – people who are different in nearly every way. USA TODAY measured some of the differences and charted what we found:

How wealthy is Kamala Harris compared with Donald Trump?

Though Trump may be facing a $454 million judgment in New York from a civil fraud case , that's still a fraction of his wealth, according to Bloomberg, and his billions dwarf the Harris family's millions.

Though total amounts vary according to source, Trump is a billionaire . He's on Bloomberg's list of the 500 richest people, with an estimated net worth of $6.4 billion .

The net worth of Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, who were married in August 2014, is estimated at $8 million , according to Forbes.

Gender and ethnicity: Harris joins Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton

In 2020, Harris was the first person of color to be elected vice president .

In 2024, among the two major political parties, Harris’ gender and ethnicity again set her apart. She combines milestones of two candidates in the past four presidential elections.

Harris will be the second Black presidential candidate after Obama in 2008, and the second female candidate after Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election. If elected, Harris would be the first woman, the first Black woman, and the first South Asian American to become president.

How old is Kamala Harris compared with Donald Trump?

Harris is 59, and Trump is 78. That gap of more than 18 years is the fourth-largest between candidates in the past five decades. Biden and Trump were separated by 3½ years. Barack Obama and John McCain had the largest gulf of almost 25 years in the 2008 election.

Kamala Harris' resume much different from Donald Trump's

Trump's winding path to the White House started when he joined his father's real estate and construction business in 1968 – just four years after Harris was born. Harris started her career as a district attorney and became vice president after holding various local, state and national public offices.

Trump was in his father's business for five years. After starting his own business, one of his first construction projects was the renovation of the Commodore Hotel and facade of Grand Central Terminal in New York City in 1976.

Trump is the founder of the Trump Organization , the reality TV star of " The Apprentice ," and former president of the United States. He was president for four years.

Harris has a public office career spanning 34 years. She began as a deputy district attorney in Alameda County, California, in 1990. She joined the San Francisco district attorney's office in 1998 and was elected San Francisco's district attorney in 2003 in a runoff election.

Harris was elected attorney general of California in 2010 and 2014. She was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016 and became Biden's vice president in 2021.
