California drivers the ‘most confrontational’ in the country: survey

California drivers are the most confrontational in the country, according to a new survey.

The survey, conducted by Talker Research and published on Forbes Advisor , found that California has the “third-highest percentage of drivers who say another driver has cut them off on purpose” and the “fifth-highest percentage of drivers who experience road rage very frequently from other drivers in their home state.”

Last year, California was ranked 13 while Arizona was number one.

The data was compiled  based on nine metrics, including the percentage of “drivers who report that another driver has forced their car off the road,” “percentage of drivers who report that another driver has exited their vehicle to yell at or fight with them,” and “percentage of drivers who report experiencing road rage very frequently from other drivers in their home state.”

Phil, a driver from Sherman Oaks, told KNX News’ Jon Baird that drivers are especially aggressive on the 405.

“I've had a couple of people yell at me and it wasn't my fault,” he said. “It was just poor drivers.”

California Highway Patrol Office Roberto Gomez told Baird that CHP gets a lot of 911 calls regarding road rage. He encourages other drivers to not pull over and confront other drivers.

“It becomes a physical altercation and next thing, you know, somebody pulls out a knife and now someone's stabbed and now both are stabbed,” he said. “And you know that those things do happen and it could end right there when somebody just pulls out some kind of a weapon and you just never know. It could be your last day.”

He added that one thing that drivers do that angers other drivers is they move over without using their blinkers.
