ABSECON – Holy Spirit High School has appointed former Oakcrest High School Principal Michael C. “Mike” McGhee as its new head of school. He is a 1988 graduate of the Catholic private school.

“We are blessed and delighted to have someone with the depth and breadth of education and experience that Mr. McGhee brings,” said Dr. Bill Watson, superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Camden following McGhee’s appointment on June 20. “I know that he will find tremendous support from the Board of Trustees, the faculty and members of the administrative team, the Holy Spirit community, as well as the Catholic community of Atlantic County.”

McGhee introduced himself to the Holy Spirit community in a letter posted on the school’s website.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead our school that has such a rich and storied tradition!  I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than 30 years as a teacher, coach, and administrator.”

McGhee has 21 years of school administration experience. He most recently served as principal of Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District’s Oakcrest High School in Mays Landing. He also served Greater Egg for 10 years as athletic director, supervisor of arts, and assistant principal at Cedar Creek High School in Egg Harbor City. Before he became involved in educational administration, he was a special education teacher and coach.

McGhee said he is passionate about creating an inclusive learning environment where all students can thrive.

“I believe that education is a collaborative effort between the school, the students, and their families. Together, we can ensure that each child receives the support and encouragement they need to reach their full potential,” his letter to the Holy Spirit community states.

He said he is looking forward to building strong relationships with members of the school community, including school alumni.

“Together, we can continue to make Holy Spirit HS one of the best choices in education parents can make in South Jersey,” he said. “I am committed to maintaining the high standards of academic excellence that Holy Spirit is known for, while also looking at new and innovative approaches to learning.”

Holy Spirit is a private Catholic school operated by the Diocese of Camden and attracts students from Atlantic City, Downbeach, along with other Atlantic County towns and beyond.
