During the WWHL: After Show , a virtual fan called in to ask Crawford if there was any truth to the years-old rumor that she was almost a host on the long-running daytime talk show — and if it were something she’d ever consider doing in the future.
“I didn’t even hear the rumor so I would assume I wasn’t even close,” she said. “And yeah, probably not. I think I like keeping a little more mystique for myself.”
The rumors originated from the late gossip columnist Liz Smith, who wrote in a 2008 New York Post piece, “ABC is now hot on Cindy. They want her as a regular on Good Morning America and The View ,” per Today .
But a rep for The View at the time quickly shut down the rumor, telling Today, “There is no truth to it. It is just a rumor that seems to have originated from ( The New York Post writer) Liz Smith’s column.”
“Here we are today, and The View is, of course, doing what The View does best: They’re going to pump the girl candidate no matter what when all of a sudden gender matters to them,” Hasselbeck, who appeared as the show’s Republican voice from 2003 to 2013, said on a recent episode of Hannity .
Hasselbeck claimed that by honing in on Harris’ gender, The View is trying to “reduce the decision-making power of the female viewers’ mind that’s watching them by saying just because she’s a female and a girl that we should be voting for her.”
It sounds like Crawford dodged a bullet!
