Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe Hotel-Casino Renovations Now Underway

Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe general manager Jason Sides said the initial redevelopment phase has commenced on the 539-room hotel and 25,000-square-foot casino. The renovation project is expected to be completed by early 2025.

Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe will offer H2O, an outdoor pool and lounge. H20 will feature contemporary, built-in seating areas, fire pits, hot tub, private cabanas, poolside bar, and outdoor gaming.

Additionally, new slots such as Buffalo Ascension, Coin Trio, and Wonder 4 Collection will be added to the gaming floor. New table games include Three Card Poker, Chase The Flush, Criss Cross Poker, and others.

From VIP suites to new gaming machines, Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe is overhauling everything.

“We’re going to touch basically every square foot of the property. We have big plans for the property with a significant capital investment,” Sides told regulators during the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) meeting a couple of weeks ago.

However, Sides did not disclose the cost of the project. One of the resort’s two towers has been closed for renovations. He expects the first floor of renovated rooms to be available by October.

Salt Grass Steakhouse will open by the fall

Sides said a Salt Grass Steakhouse — one of several dozen restaurant brands owned by Fertitta — will open by the fall. He said Mastro’s Steak House, another Fertitta restaurant brand, will also be added to the property.

Following its purchase last year by Houston billionaire Tilman Fertitta’s privately held Fertitta Entertainment, the property is now operating under its fifth name since its opening on June 30, 1965.

In March 2023, Fertitta, owner of two other Golden Nugget casinos in Nevada and the Houston Rockets NBA team, announced the acquisition of the property, formerly known as the Hard Rock Hotel, through his company Fertitta Entertainment Inc. from Paragon Gaming.

Fertitta received approval for the acquisition in August from the NGCB. The billionaire already had renovation plans for the property that he intended to rebrand as Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe.

During the meeting with the NGCB, Sides seemed confident that guests would return.

“You know, the shoulder seasons this spring and fall, this past fall were really slow, but we’ve seen the last few weeks of really, really nice surge of business and a lot of bodies up there,” Sides said. “So that’s good to see.”
