Haason Reddick saga gets another chapter for the New York Jets

The New York Jets have placed edge defender Haason Reddick on the reserve/did not report list. This is the latest development in a relationship that has gone in the opposite direction of what the team wanted and expected when they traded a conditional third-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this year.

The move to place Reddick on the reserve list opens up a roster spot, which the Jets used to sign quarterback Ben Bryant. Now, the 90-man roster have four quarterbacks — the team already had Aaron Rodgers, Tyrod Taylor, and Andrew Peasley. The Jets also have Jordan Travis on the non-football injury list.

Reddick wants security, and wants a new deal now. He didn't show up for mandatory minicamp , forfeited a $250,000 workout bonus and was fined $50,000 for missing the activity. Now, he hasn't (and probably won't) report to training camp , incurring additional $50,000 daily fines. On their side of things, the Jets will not negotiate with a player who isn't on the team.

The decision to place Reddick on the did not report list probably means they expect a long absence now.

Haason Reddick is slated to make $14.25 million in base salary this season, with $500,000 available in incentives. That's why the Jets acquired him, thinking they could get a player who's had 27 sacks over the last two seasons for the price of a mid-level free agent. But that's also why Reddick doesn't want to play. He tried to negotiate a new deal with the Eagles, but they couldn't get it done and decided to trade him away .

The Jets expected they would be able to have Reddick under the current deal and negotiate an extension later, but it's not trending in that direction. General manager Joe Douglas made an offer, but Reddick reportedly wants more future guarantees.

Haason Reddick will be fined $50,000 for every missed day throughout training camp. Moreover, the fines are not forgivable, because he is a vested veteran.
