ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – A digital sign on Interstate 469 was removed Thursday morning after its message “trumped” construction.

The sign’s message, “Vote for Trump”, shifted from guiding drivers away from a lane closure to guiding voters at the polls.

A WANE 15 viewer reported seeing the message shortly before 7 a.m. The sign could be seen off the I-469/I-69 interchange near GM’s assembly plant before it was removed around 8 a.m.

It’s unclear how long the political statement was there, or how the sign’s message was diverted from construction guidelines in the first place.

A spokesperson for the Indiana Department of Transportation told WANE 15 it was a contractor’s sign, and that “political messaging is not permitted on any INDOT construction sites or devices.”
