TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) – A suspect who officials say barricaded himself in a house with guns after threatening to kill his stepfather has been taken into custody.

The situation unfolded late Monday morning when deputies responded to a home on Cedar Crossing Road about an assault.

According to the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office, Tony Ogletree told deputies that his stepson, Samuel Miller, threatened to kill him and then himself while holding a gun.

Ogletree said that as he ran into his home, Miller fired at him, though he was not struck.

Miller then retreated to a pond house on the back of the property and refused to come out as deputies instructed.

That’s when they learned that Miller suffered from mental health issues.

After about an hour, Miller exited the pond house and was safely taken into custody. During the exchange, he told deputies that he had a pistol and a rifle with him; the pistol in which he had allegedly stolen from a nearby residence.

According to the sheriff’s office, Miller was transported to a treatment facility and will be taken to the Toombs County Detention Center afterward.

He faces felony aggravated assault, burglary and firearm charges.

“The Toombs County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Georgia State Patrol Post 18 (Reidsville), Georgia Department of Natural Resources Region 4 Office (Metter), and Toombs Montgomery EMS for their response and assistance with this incident,” a statement from Capt. Jordan Kight reads.
