When speaking on the Official Marvel Podcast in June 2024, Kevin Feige confirmed that The Fantastic Four will be a period piece that is seemingly set in an alternate universe instead of the main MCU continuity.
“It is a period [piece], and there was another piece of art we released with Johnny Storm flying in the air, making a four symbol,” he said. “There was a cityscape in the corner of that image and there was a lot of smart people who noticed that cityscape didn’t look exactly like the New York that we know and the New York that existed in the 60s in our world. And those are smart observations, I’ll say.”
Prior to The Fantastic Four, Shakman directed all nine episodes of WandaVision for Marvel . He has also directed episodes of New Girl, Mad Men, Fargo, Game of Thrones, The Boys, Succession, and more.
The Fantastic Four releases in United States theaters on July 25, 2025, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
