One parent was at their wit's end after their mother-in-law objected to their choice of baby name .

Taking to social media platform Reddit , they shared the name that the woman could not get behind.

They wrote: “My mother-in-law is giving me so much grief over our baby name choice. Please be honest on what you think?

“We chose Alphabeta Silver and plan on calling her Betty for short. We love grammar and literature and instantly agreed when we heard the name and my mother-in-law isn’t going to make any more choices for us.

“She has controlled everything from our engagement photos to our wedding day and this is where I draw the line!”

Reddit users chimed in on the discussion, giving their opinions about the tricky situation.

One social media user said: “For loving grammar and literature so much, they really don’t have much of an imagination if all they came up with was to name their kid alphabet.”

Another individual joked: “Alphabetti Spaghetti for short.”

Someone else said: “Honestly, if my son has kids wants to call his kid ‘Alphabeta Silver’ I would probably give him and his partner some grief too. I generally disagree with grandparents judging names, but that's for normal/semi-normal names. This is a name that 99% of people will agree is dumb.”

Someone else suggested: “Like, if you love literature, name it after a beloved character from literature.”

And someone else said: “My baby name litmus test is ‘how is this going to look on a job application when this person grows up and enters the working world.’”
